Applies to W2000, ME, XP and NT4.0 Now working my backup computer because the primary is fubar. Symptom was slow operation and it would reboot every 10 minutes or so. Went to the microsoft site and installed the hotfix. Not good. Did a bunch of other stuff like system restore. Not good. Computer will not even go online. Went to Symantec and downloaded their fix on a floppy using this machine. No go. Uninstalled the Microsoft Hotfix. Tried the Symantec fix. No go. Gave up. I'm giving it a rest. Thinking I may have to do a system recovery to recover to factory shipped programs. Then have to re-install all my other programs. Not good.Moral: Do not install the MS patch after infection. Symantic fix: [ http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html ] MSNBC has links to a fix, manual fix, and the patch. [ http://www.msnbc.com/news/951393.asp?0cv=TB10#BODY ] Do not install MS patch before fix. If not infected install the MS patch for your system now.
